Microsoft Edge Download Guide for SOS

If you are using Microsoft Edge and encountering the message:

"[filename] isn't commonly downloaded. Make sure you trust [filename] before you open it",

Follow these steps to fix the download issue:

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. In the top-right corner, click on the three dots (...) to open the menu, then select Settings.
  3. On the left-hand side, click on Privacy, search, and services.
  4. Scroll down to the Security section.
  5. Find Microsoft Defender SmartScreen.
  6. Toggle the switch to Off to disable SmartScreen filtering. This will allow you to download the file without getting the warning.

Note: Disabling SmartScreen reduces some protection, so only proceed with trusted downloads after doing this.

  1. Download the Software: Once SmartScreen is disabled, proceed to download the software.
  2. Return to the Software Installation Process: Once the download is complete, follow the installation steps for all users outlined here.
  3. Re-enable SmartScreen: After installing the software, turn SmartScreen back on by following the same steps and toggling it back to on for continued security.
